In 1993, Lynn Hill did what the climbing world had spent thirty years calling impossible. She free climbed The Nose on El Capitan, the first person, man or woman, ever to do it. A year later she repeated it in under twenty-four hours. It took more than a decade for anyone else to follow.
By then she had already won over thirty international titles and was established as one of the best climbers in the world. But The Nose was different. It was not a question of ability. It was a question of whether anyone was willing to stop accepting the established route.
